The Village of Doaktown’s nearest municipal neighbour is the Rural Community of Upper Miramichi, an amalgamation of 16 small communities in and around Boiestown, incorporated on March 17, 2008. The boundaries of the RCUM extend from McGivney to the Doaktown Village limits.
The Village of Blackville is located about 46 kilometres (28 miles) northeast of the Village of Doaktown and approximately 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the City of Miramichi. It was incorporated as a village in 1967 and, like Doaktown, is well known for its salmon fishing.
The Blissfield Local Service District consists of the entire Parish of Blissfield (including Hazelton, the Grand Lake Road, and Weaver’s Siding) with the exception of the Village of Doaktown. This is an unincorporated area to which the Province of New Brunswick provides a variety of services such as fire protection, solid waste collection and disposal, and street lighting. The 2006 Canada Census listed the population of this Local Service District at 560.
The village of Doaktown is located in the heart of the Miramichi, along the Miramichi River. The famous Miramichi River is one of the most productive salmon rivers in the world, in both past and present day. Not only is the Southwest Miramichi River among the top 10 cleanest rivers in the world, it is home to the elusive Atlantic salmon that has tempted the skill of men for centuries. Doaktown's history is both colourful and diverse, changing with time and industry. Home to the Atlantic Salmon Museum, the Doak Historic Site, the Old Mill Pond Golf Club, and numerous fishing and outdoor adventure experiences.
